• Sue Blackwell wrote to the Registrar and Secretary of the University on 5th February 2004 on behalf of a group of website owners, requesting a meeting. His predecessor, David Allen, had isued a strong defence of academic freedom and insisted that Sue "had done nothing wrong" in reply to complaints about her sites. Sue expressed the hope that the new Registrar would uphold this honourable tradition. Regrettably, he declined the request for a meeting and defended the new website policy which, as he pointed out, was sent out to Heads of Schools in his name.

• The Director of Information Services has declined our requests for a meeting to discuss our concerns.

• The Assistant Director of Information Services is responsible for some of the modifications which have been made to earlier drafts of the policy.
